The Ancient Mariners are happy to perform both in a concert setting with entertaining and informative narratives between songs, or as a background band for special social events. When appropriate, we can play quietly, so that guests do not have to struggle to carry on a conversation. While we use some amplification - principally for vocals - we always strive for an undistorted acoustic sound.
We frequently play for dancing (either planned or impromptu) and our repertoire extends beyond the boundaries of traditional jazz, including waltzes, tangos, Klezmer, swing and Celtic jigs and reels. We also enjoy playing gospel tunes and old time ragtime.
Our eight piece Dixieland band also performs in smaller groups appropriate for your event.
